Facebook: The Ultimate in Multimedia?

Thus far along in graduate study, I've learned that defining multimedia is a difficult process. We all realize that it means having multiple forms of media involved, but the product can include text documents, photo slideshows, audio, video, interactivity, maps, etc. The possibilities are endless.

I've been thinking about what the ultimate multimedia form would look like and include and I can't think of anything out there as of yet that better exudes multimedia than Facebook.

Obviously, interactivity is HUGE on Facebook, with users being able to contact one another, send and share various items, includes video, photos of all sorts, audio, maps of world travels, just to name a few. With the development of applications, a whole other realm of multimedia is showing up on the social networking site.

Now I’m a huge fan of social networking site, and none intrigue me as much as Facebook. New things to do are popping up daily. I’d be interested to know how many new subscribers to Facebook there are on a daily basis.

As a new semester at VCU begins, I intend to set out this semester to define multimedia. I believe that multimedia currently has no definition and I also believe that my fellow classmates and I will define the term for future generations.

Wish us luck.
